Whole house filtration
There are many ways of filtering the water that comes into your house. The first thing a person needs to do is accertain what are the polutants in the water that they want to remove. As a for instance if a persons municipal water company supplies water that has an amount of sand or particulates that need to be removed then you would want to put a prefilter inline before the final filter that is used to take the finer polutants out. Otherwise the larger particles will clog your second stage filter and cause premature pressure build up and will be forced to change that cartridge early.
The types of chemicals that are in your water that need to be removed are things like chlorine, chloramines, VOCs (volatile organic compounds), odors, funny tastes, arsenic and many other items.
Our filtration systems consists of the following:
1) The high pressure vessel or what we call the "Canister". This is the main part of your filter system. Inside the canister is where there can be many different types of filtration media.
2) The filter. This is the first stage of where the water will be filtered. Normally it is a paper element filter not unlike some of the filters that you would see and use to filter your swimming pool. The big difference is the initial pore size of the paper element filter. A lot of swimming pool filters have an initial pore size of 100 microns or higher. Our normal 60 sq foot paper element cartridges has an initial nominal pore size of 20 microns. This cartridge will filter out any silt, sand, hair, and other rather large items that is present in the water.
3) The carbon block filter. This would be the secondary stage of filtration for the water to pass thru. This filter has an initial nominal pore size of .5 of a micron. This filter will filter out things like
